Building Maintenance Technician

Department: Physical Plant
Location: Sandy Springs, GA

Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School is seeking a Building Maintenance Technician. The Maintenance Technician will assist with routine maintenance for the entire campus, including, but not limited to, general building maintenance, the cleaning and maintenance of all buildings/exterior grounds/parking lots/parking deck, general preventative maintenance tasks, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities. This is a full time, calendar year position. Full time employees may be eligible for benefits including health care coverage, retirement plan contributions and paid time off.

Typical duties include:

  • Performs a variety of routine semi-skilled maintenance for the school facilities, including, but not limited to, carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical trades work. Ensures that facilities are available for use and consistently maintained in a safe and clean condition.
  • Ability to operate carts and fleet vehicles.
  • Safely and properly use hand tools as needed.
  • Inspects facilities and grounds for safety and security; identifies and reports hazardous conditions and facility maintenance needs to supervisor.
  • Must be "hands-on" and assist in completing maintenance work.
  • Must be able to complete work order forms, take direction, be organized, and have the ability to effectively communicate with supervisor.
  • Perform general, routine custodial duties, such as dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies, as requested.
  • Empty trash receptacles, disposing of trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bag trash for proper disposal.
  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Maintain exterior grounds and certain interior areas as required, using basic landscaping maintenance methods and equipment.
  • Monitor campus entrances and floor areas during adverse weather conditions.
  • Implement basic safety procedures during daily routine.
  • Keep the exterior free of unsightly weeds, trash and other debris.
  • Perform general manual labor associated with custodial and set-up functions.
  • Set up and break down special event equipment.

Minimum requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an educational environment preferred.
  • Valid Georgia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • A strong understanding of accepted practices, processes, materials and tools of the maintenance trades.
  • To have a strong manual dexterity and problem-solving skills and be detailed oriented
  • Must have the ability to communicate with others effectively and an understanding of a work order system.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job and include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Frequent lifting of equipment and materials weighing 50 pounds or more
  • Crawl, climb ladders, twist, turn and reach in completing a variety of job duties
  • Work outside in hot or cold conditions for extended periods of time
  • Work in wide variety of environments as found in all areas of the school
  • Able to operate vehicles and machines
