Upper School Religion Teacher

Department: Upper School
Location: Sandy Springs, GA

Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School seeks a full-time Upper School Religion Teacher to begin in August 2026. The successful candidate will teach five sections of core departmental offerings, Biblical Studies (10th and 11th grade) and World Religions (11th and 12th grade), and will serve as advisor to an advisory of approximately 10–15 students during their Upper School years. The successful candidate will also be expected to collaborate with the religion department chair, religion faculty, and HIES chaplains to review, develop, and improve religion department curriculum.

As an Episcopal school that places emphasis on the spiritual health of its students, Holy Innocents’ expects its faculty to affirm and uphold the tenets of our Episcopal identity and mission statement in all aspects of their work. Upper School Religion classrooms at Holy Innocents’ are therefore inclusive spaces, welcoming students of all backgrounds and religious orientations, inviting them to explore their own religious orientations, and facilitating encounters with traditions different from their own. Faculty in the Upper School Religion Department are therefore expected to model inclusivity, compassion, and kindness in their teaching practice. The ideal candidate will be both committed to inclusive pedagogy and will have demonstrable experience establishing and maintaining a welcoming classroom environment.

Strong candidates for the position will have at least two (2) years’ experience teaching in the humanities and a Bachelor’s degree in religion or a related discipline in the humanities. The ideal candidate will have experience and/or education in the academic study of religions and biblical literature, preferably in an independent, secondary school setting. The ideal candidate should also have interest in pursuing opportunities for engagement with extra-curricular student life at HIES, and strong candidates will have demonstrated experience engaging students outside of the classroom (e.g., in student clubs, coaching sports’ teams, and/or service-learning experiences).

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Please submit a cover letter (addressed to the Upper School Principal, Mr. Jason Rutledge) and résumé through the application portal. Please also include the names and contact information of two professional references.
